Goldring Electro II Cartiridge

I'm looking at buying a TT with Goldring Electro II cartridge. I know its pretty old (1980's) and I can't find much info about a replacement stylus for it. I'm wondering if I would have to replace the whole cartridge if the stylus is or goes bad. Does anyone have any knowledge of this cartridge and whether there are replacement stylus and where to get them?

Thanks,

Steve

Hey Steve, did you see this?

I thought at first you meant ElectrA not O. That's a common cartridge but the Electro is not. It's also not a replaceable stylus in the plug and play sense. You can probably get it retipped but that will usually cost a couple of hundred or more.

Cartridges rarely go bad. The stylus can wear or get broken off and in a case like this one it might be easier to install a new cartridge. Even if you do send it away to be retipped you will likely wait several weeks or more to get it back.

I did see that link. Its about the only info I could find but I wasn't clear about stylus replacement. I understand now, "not user replaceable" = expensive. I guess I should factor in the cost of a new cartridge.

Thanks for the help. Happy new year,

Steve

Depending on what stylus/cantilever combo is on there, it's possible a retip could be in the $150 - $225 range. A new cart of that quality would be much more. Goldring makes some nice carts. Although this was first introduced in 1983, its design is basically still being used today by the Goldring Eroica which sells for about $800 these days.
Soundsmith has a long lead time, but others are about 2 weeks or less. Quotes are free from all of the usual suspects. It can't hurt to investigate further.
