I'm currently driving my KEF's with the amp side of a Pioneer SX-1010 and using a Schiit Saga pre (because I want a remote). I love how it sounds but would like something with a little more power, to get the best out of them. Besides, it seems such a waste to use only half of a good receiver.
I've also have a Pioneer SX-1250 and a Sansui AU-919 that I've tried (still using the Schiit). The 1250 wasn't as detailed and the 919 was a little too sharp. Nothing wrong with the Sansui (recapped a few years ago) as it works just fine with a pair of ribbon tweeter bookshelf speakers. It's my ears that are the problem. (Half deaf with tinnitus.
)
Anyhow, I'd like to find a SS amp that has the same sound characteristics as the 1010, but with a little more juice. I also want it to have speaker protection (because I'm paranoid that way) so that eliminates some. I'd like to keep it below 1K, but would increase that for the right screaming deal.
So I'm looking for ideas, viewpoints, opinions, comments and recommendations for what to start looking for. And, if vintage, something that won't cost me another 1K to have rebuilt.
Thanks for your input.
