good/average small sub to pair with minimus 7s

thedelihaus, by the looks of your new avatar, I think it was a wise decision to avoid speakers with large magnets.

Yeah, that's my new backbone after someone unceremoniously ran me and my father over. I'm trying to figure out a way to incorporate it into some better FM for my tuner, though... :scratch2:
 
I have one of those RCA era subs from Radio Shack, the Optimus Pro SW 120P. It sounded much much too boomy so I rarely used it. Then I replaced the cheapo 10" driver with an Infinity 1030W subwoofer, sealed the unit and stuffed it with fiberfill. Now it sounds like a good subwoofer. Would not recommend a stock model.

One of the best examples of transmuting pain into humor I've ever heard.



Some small subs I've tried and liked:


Conventional subs:

Yamaha YST-SW45/SW105. Compact but chunky little powered sub with motional feedback. If you stuff a sock in the port the bass tightens up very nicely. Seems to combine seamlessly with just about anything.

KLH Bassbite II. A little bigger than the Yama and a smaller amp, but it's a well-designed bandpass enclosure, so no exposed cone for the cats/kids to scratch/kick. Well made and cheap.


Puter subs, whose advantage is that the amps are all built in and the subs are small:

Cambridge Soundworks' Soundworks. The little computer sub/sat with the confusing name. Very small, surprisingly good sound. Uses wallwart. Cheap enough to buy and give the satellites away. Bandpass type.

Monsoon MM-702. The sub is often available separately on That Auction Site. A bit bigger than the CSW above but tight and clean. Bandpass type.
 
I'll also give a :thmbsp: to the Dayton sub from PE. I use it in my home theater set-up. I don't think you'll find another sub at that price point that goes as low as the Dayton. They go on sale frequently for $99 with free shipping. That's when I bought mine. I just looked at the PE link, and it looks like they've updated the sub since I bought mine. I have a down firing 10", and now it is a front firing sub.
