I assume your receiver has no phono input. Get a Hagerman Bugle or something like it & use the aux or tape input.

The Emotiva phono pre is $129.00 shipped and already getting good reviews here...so good I am getting one myself. With a 30 day trial you can't go wrong and it accommodates MC and MM.

Another recommendation for the Emotiva phono preamp. I'm thinking about getting one as well. Those who are on the fence better act now because the sale ends 1/5 at 11:59pm. This is the first phono preamp I have seen where the User has the ability to configure load impedance.

A dedicated phono stage is probably a better choice than going with longer phono cables, especially if you're using a moving magnet cartridge and the distance between the turntable and your Onkyo receiver is more than a few (6?) feet. Moving magnet cartridges tend to be very sensitive to capacitance, and longer interconnects can add a lot of unwanted capacitance. Long interconnects after the phono stage (i.e. from phono stage to line stage) are much less sensitive to this.
