Good deal on Bose 901 on DC CL

Great deal but I'm wondering why they are saying the speakers need to be replaced. Series 1's and 2's don't have foam surrounds.

Well worth buying just for the cabs, stands, and EQ if nothing else. I'll be surprised if they last the night.

Bose 901 series 1's with stands and EQ in case link disappears.

Is it the camera angle or is the 901 on the left a little bit larger than the one on the right? Could be from different series and one of them has bad foam? Still a good price though even for the eq and stands alone.

Don't series 1's have the neon lights inside like the other ones do? You can plug those into the wall if you want.

Series one uses cloth surrounds and are virtually impossible to blow up. No light bulb inside these, the drivers are connected directly to the terminals. The EQ might have a problem, they usually do but Bose will rebuild them for a flat $50 (or so) fee. The odds of the drivers actually needing replacement/repair are very slim. This is a seller who calls them Boise after all.

There is a pair local to me for $300 with stands and eq, picture looks good. What would be a good price?

that is a very fair price. i just sold a pair for $400 with an aftermarket equalizer and no stands. they went pretty quickly

Did you like them?

they need the right set up. They are a reflecting speaker so you need to have corners. They also need big power. I would want 100+ watts.

Set up correctly, they are surprisingly satisfying for good old fashioned rock music. They are not an audiophile speaker but they can be a lot of fun. I could easily see them being the speaker a guy would listen to the most if that is what he is looking for.

As noted, Bose designed a whopping 400 WPC amp, in the early 70s, to drive the Series I & II 901s. Series III and later are much more efficient. My IVs can be driven to painfully high SPLs with a Sansui 8080.

According to Bose, you need correct setup, but corners aren't strictly necessary. They can be set up to reflect off of a flat wall.

I have a 120wpc Rotel power amp, and these are much newer looking in the pics than the I or II. Probably a V or VI. Seller said Bose refurbished them for his father before he got them. Will try to go listen to them soon.
