Good price for these?

I run my 7Bs with my CR-2020 and have no complaints. They are mounted on top of a pair of wall units, tilted slightly forward and down. Because they sit at the intersection of two walls and the ceiling the bass is augmented. You could not have mine for $175.

LOL..don't worry I would never ask anyone to part with their vintage treasures.:D If I got them I would keep them on the floor or maybe better still get or build some stands for them.

If they are in nice shape and really have been re-capped, I think $85 is a very good deal on these. I used to run mine with a Yamaha integrated (a CA-810) and it was a fantastic pairing. I say you should go and audition these!

Yes, at that price point I must go and audition them now!
I'm going to also ask the seller if he happens to know whether or not the tweets are peerless. (I'm not sure it really matters if they are or not, but as you can see before that word was tossed around a bit).
I'll be calling the seller when I get home from work and hopefully he still has them.

Picked them up!!

I called the seller again and asked if Friday night would be good for demo and he said they will be gone in the morning when his wholeseller comes.
I thought, not before I hear them he doesn't!!

So I drove 10 miles that instant. The guy is real nice and honest. He hooked them up and let me put them through the paces. He popped the grills and lo and behold the tweeters ARE Peerless! The cones and surrounds are in excellent shape. The cabinets are not in as good as shape as my Kenwoods from the same year, but nothing major or worriesome. The grills are in fair shape with each one have a tiny ripped area, but unless your close you can't see it. One is missing the logo and one speaker is missing one pin that holds the grill on, no biggie.
The part that counts is in great shape, no leaks and the sound is really quite nice. We cranked them up pretty good and I did not get that loose bass. (They were however sitting on the bench in the garage, so I imagine if I put them on the floor....)
Anyway I picked them up for $85. I think that is a fair and happy price for these.
They actually sound better than today's Polks!
Not vintage, but sound is right and that's waht really matters. (Although I still long for that vintage look on at least one pair of speakers someday).
He is a sort of flipper, but he is real fair and he even demoed a pair of ESPs and Quad 2's knowing I was not buying them just to let me hear them. I thought that was nice of him giving me a chance to hear them for the first time. (The quads brought back memories). He wanted $50 for either the ESP or Quads buyers choice and both in excellent cond.
He also had a pair of Yamaha NS70Ts that are sold. He also had a nice Pioneer SX-950 in excellent cond. He gets stuff every week, he and his son go out hunting gear at estate sales etc. (I wonder what ones he goes to)?
He only buys stuff in good shape, easy to fix and clean up to original cond. He is careful about correct parts and procedures. He had a few pieces in his garage all neatly cared for and stored correctly. I did not see one sign of slop anywhere. (Unlike some other flippers places I've seen).
He said he mostly deals in low-end stuff with the occasional MOTL and rare TOTL.

Congrats, you really can't go wrong with those at that price. Take a look inside and see what kind of caps he used.

Yeah, after hearing them hooked up to a modern low-end receiver I felt that I could not go wrong. They should sound nice hooked up to the Yamaha CR-2020.
I am not sure how to get inside to check the caps yet. I'd like to cosmetically fix them up a bit as there is some lifting of the veneer along one edge of one of the cabinets. The grills could use some work as well. I'm sure a good cleaning will take care of a few sins.

I'll look for something else. (I was thinking about my Yamaha CR-2020 with these), but I hate loose cannon bass. I like my bass tight and musical and clean (like Geddy Lee bass to use an illustration)
Finding good vintage speakers is not easy. I may have to go modern speakers with the rest of my vintage gear if I can't find anything in the next few months, but I do desire the vintage look all the way with my vintage gear. (I'm just funny that way).
I'm getting slightly anxious to properly hear my receivers, but I do understand I have to wait to find the right speakers.

I did this, to great results. My speakers will outlast my other gear, for sure.
