Good Wine in a Box

Hey Finn, good info, thanks. I'll look for that.

I recently have been drinking Fish Eye Shiraz box wine (about 16 bucks). My wife does not drink red wine and I'll drink two or three glasses in the evening leaving half the bottle. The box wines last longer as you say and are more convenient if you are only drinking a couple of glasses each day.

Agree about the value and quality of wines from Argentina and Chili.

The local wine expert on our PBS TV station here in Chicago said box wines are improving, so we can come out of the closet. <grin>

The interesting thing about the Argentina and Chilean wines is that many of the vines were imported from France because of the opposite growing season. They can produce more wines in different regions of the world, not just France. There are some very nice Malbec's and Tempranillo's out there. :thmbsp:
 
I will look for this too, thanks. I also like Argentinian and Chilian and have also found some good deals on decent wines from South Africa and Australia. I do have one of these http://www.winesoiree.com/ that a friend gave to me but I usually forget to use it. Been drinking white wine lately anyway.

Actually, melbac was pretty much abandon in France in the 1700's and then showed up in the 1800's in Argentina. Didn't really have to do with the growing seasons.. Mel bec iis french for bad beak... They really didn't care for it in France. They considered it a cheap grape for a cheap wine..

I found quite a few decent wines in boxes during my brief time living in Italy. :thmbsp:

mmmm.. I'll never forget the years in Germany.... all us kids carrying around a boda bag filled with cheap wine tasting like the inside of an inner tube... Life was pretty grand..

I have one of those, it's never been used. And never will be!
My daughter's boyfriend tried to tell me it was for storing black gunpowder in.
I guess it's a little before his time.
 
the box is catching on. Hardy's is another widely available box wine that is decent for around $15. I just read that Molson/Coors is going to begin selling draught beer in a box.

In Germany, we used to put Apfelkorn in boda bags for skiing. Gives you some very fluid legs.:D
 
For the "short" term (less than 1 year), I'd highly recommend a good wine packaged in an aseptic box, especially in large sizes from 3-5 liters. IMHO, it's the best way to package them for wines meant to be consumed.
