Goodmans Speaker System

Just picked up a neat set of classic Goodmans English speakers at a thrift shop yesterday.

These are a set of Goodmans Minister SL Ported Bass Reflex speakers. The cabinet is Teak veneer that needs restoration due to some scratches. Looks like a 8 inch speaker with what appears to be a half-roll cloth coated surround with a 1 inch voice coil and a dome tweeter with a phase plug (similar to a Sony Nanofine dome tweeter or Philips AD0160 polycarb domes possibly with a phase plug? - have to do the flashlight through Grill Cloth trick to see drivers). Presently have the speakers in our Den, sound seems clear and natural, bass doesn't appear to get down too low, maybe about 60 Hz give or take. They seem to require some power to drive, spec on back of cabinet states: 8 ohm, sensitivity 4.4 watts. I paid $6.99 plus tax $7.83 including tax for the pair.

Does anyone have any info on these speakers?

Same place had a set of Wharfedale Accoustic Suspension with 10 inch cast frame woofer 3 way bookshelf system in teak veneer. I waited to long to pick these up at $20 plus tax so lost out.

I'm not familiar with this model, you may need to do a bit of googling. They look interesting though.

I had a pair of these. The grilles on mine pulled off - they were velcroed on.

They do indeed have a Philips AD0160/T8 tweeter in there and an 8 inch woofer. However, the voice coil and motor is pretty small on the woofer which may explain its hunger for power.

It sort of looks the the 8 inch speaker is not so much a woofer as maybe just an extended range speaker. Thanks for the info on the grill cloths I will have another look at them.
