goodmans speakers

I just got a Dynatron Either Marshall console it is mono and has a Goodmans Orlon lll 12" speaker in it. seperate tweeter is a Goodmans Axaion 8" tweeter. Are these high quality or should I search for better. Amp in unit is rated at 13 watts using kt66s wired as triodes. Thanks for your help Norman

No need to double post. Be patient and give members a chance to see your thread and respond. It could be that these speakers are not all that well known, so perhaps there are few people who can respond.

The question is, good enough for what? That's a high end mono console from the 1950s. It will likely perform very well once the amplifier has been serviced. It will be hard to find info here though since Dynatron is specific to the UK, and this forum is mostly North American.

Since this sort of console crosses the line between hi-fi and vintage radio, I suggest to ask about it over at the UK based www.vintage-radio.net for a better chance someone will have meaningful input. They were a big help with my Bush radio from the same time period.

I have to say though, early Goodmans speakers are usually top quality in their category, and triode KT66 are always a recipe for success. They have also become extremely expensive, so be very careful handling the the tubes!

I assume that the Axaion is actual an Axiom, and is really a full range being used as a tweeter - odd to us, but not that uncommon back then.
My impression is that the Axioms have very good reputations, and I suspect that the amp and the speakers are well matched. If you do try something else, keep the modificaiton reversible, and keep the original drivers.
