Goodwill find this weekend

Lilli Luxe Pin Up Model
I picked up a Technics SL-QX300 yesterday at the local Goodwill store. It came with a Audio Technica DC30 P-mount cart and a non broken stylus. It is really dirty but seems to be completely functional and the dust cover is not broken. I picked it up for $8.00. Anyone know anything about this tt or the cart?

It's an '83 - '85 model that retailed for $220. Direct drive, quartz lock, full auto with good specs. A great buy for $8. I'd clean and lube it, mount a fresh stylus and play some records.

Looks like a P-Mount cartridge. Should be easy to find a replacement stylus, or $20 will get you a shiny new AT-92ECD cart that will work great on this. Enjoy.

Love the Charlie Brown avatar!

Great Score! Enjoy your New TT.:thmbsp:

Cart is a standard AT type. At90cd, 3472, AT101ep, 1001, etc etc. There are dozens of variants and my guess (someone please chime in if they can confirm otherwise) is that the bodies are interchangeable and only the stylus differentiates between the models. They're still readily available and cheap and (IMO) not anything to write home about. Check the archive for threads on p-mount carts (there was one just a few days ago). A Shure M92 would probably sound a little beefier than that AT.

What's with the black tape in the left front corner? Something under there?

In my experience, it was less expensive to buy a new AT-92ECD (which are often sold at a discount) with the cartridge, stylus, brush, and stylus cover, than to buy just the stylus by itself.

Under the black tape is a small metal rod 1/8" in diameter and 1/2" long. I haven't figured out where it fits yet but everything works perfectly. The auto record sizer works, the repeat function works, the tt is dead silent and holds speed rock steady. Any thoughts on where it might fit?

Pics of that part?

It sounds a bit like a single play spindle. Some TT's have single play spindles and longer multi disc spindles which can be swapped in and out. I think that table has repeat functionality but I can't tell if is a full changer. Anyway, you have a single play spindle (i.e. short) installed and the multi one would be longer and have some moving parts to it to hold the record stack. So I can't say what it is so far.
