Goodwill/SA/Thrift Store Discussions & Finds

I just scored 110 albums at $.10 each at a local thrift. When I went through them at home, about 20 were goners, and out of the rest, half were VG+ to VG++ and the rest were VG to G. Lots of variety, too. I guess I have some cleaning to do!

That sounds like the kind of score that would leave me smiling all day long!

Passed on two recievers today,

Kenwood KR-5150. Super ugly. Holy crap is that thing ugly. Great shape though, one bent knob and some lights out. Powered up, was pulling in FM.

Sony STR-GX5ES II. I have a GX59ES, it's great, so I thought about it, but it's the lowest end ES receiver. Plus, it was in rough shape and 50 whole dollars.

I have too many now, so I didn't buy either. Sigh!

I took and old MacBook G4, P-Touch, paper tape calculator and some odd office detritus to GW today. Decided if there was a DA spot in front I'd go in, there was and I did. Gladness.

NIB Film Chain Gizmo w/ audio $15

Absolutely Mint Argus 300 Slip Projector w/ the single slide holder and a spare bulb $15

A dozen albums $24 (incl a Command on 35mm film)

And this lovely vinyl covered Command Records box of 7

Woohoo! Some good records, a bunch of Command and the stuff I need to transfer my slides to digital. Now I just need to find a couple of Argus trays.

Sony STR-DG510

$31.50 at SA today. Seems to work fine, needs remote.

I'd seen a early pair realistic speakers. Kind cool looking but passed on them. Surprised that I found a yamaha AX-550 at gw for $30. I figured that they would have put it on shopgoodwill so it would sell for over a hundred. They must have thought it was bpc. Needs a cleaning but it works great. Not sure what to use it for. :scratch2:

Paid $50 for a Technics SA-800a lights up and works great, very pretty receiver but its not as featured packed as other brands

It's very heavy and 125 watts a channel and can handle 4-16 ohms

Stopped in at a local thrift on my lunchbreak yesterday, and after digging through a large selection of crapola records, I found this little gem. A Culture Club "Colour By Numbers" picture disk. Worth every bit of the quarter I spent on it. :music:
And a picture disc even. Great score.

I've got an AX-570 that I paid a few more than $30 for. I bought it in '99 and never used it until this website got me into the hobby again.

It's now acting as phono preamp to an SL1800 for digitizing and restoring out-of-print Christmas LPs.

It's a decent sounding "little" unit.

Found a Pioneer SA-950 and tuner for $10 at the flea market.
A Polk Audio PSW10 subwoofer at the yard sales for $10.

Love this little 70 watt amp!

Picked these up last week at the GW. NHT 1A, needing refoamed, $1.00. B&K V 75 MKII, $3.00.

Same NHT piano black speakers are available where I found my receiver at the top of the page.

The seller has the center channel and the two sides, I don't recall seeing the sub. Looks like excellent speakers for a small room though

I've been considering putting my TF600's back into rotation in our family room setup, but the room is so big I needed a sub and wasn't willing to spend the cash on one since I have a nice set of Def Tech BP2000's down there that are great for what we use them for. The TF's are just a little better for music.

Today I ran across this Mirage sub for $20. Dual woofers, but it's as big as a small car. Sounds great--now I just need to figure out where the heck to put it.

If anyone can tell me anything about this sub, I'd appreciate it. I haven't been able to find anything except another guy asking about it.

I rarely get to this particular Value Village more than once a month. However I found myself so close I could not resist 2 days in a row. Yesterday I picked up a few records, not exciting but in good shape at least:

Dire Straits - Love Over Gold & Communique
Kool & The Gang - Spin Their Top Hits

Today, I only glanced at the records in the usual spot and wandered around finding nothing else interesting...until I got to the exit. There was a bin of recent donations and along with a pair of BIC Venturis (which I left) was a stack of 200+ records.

Here's what I got from there before they even hit the shelves:

Records Jan 13, 2013 by Buhduh, on Flickr

Billy Cobham - Crosswinds
Leonard Cohen - The Songs Of
The Band - Music From Big Pink - Japanese Import!
George Benson - Body Talk
Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick
The Velvet Underground & Nico - Produced By Andy Warhol
Easy Rider - Soundtrack

Most are mint or very close except for V.U., quite worn but playable, & Jethro Tull with significant scratches though the cover is pretty good.

Nice score on that Velvet Underground lp. Does it have the peel off banana still on it?
