Garage sale cassettepalooza
Stopped at a garage sale Saturday...there were maybe a couple dozen LPs and a LOT of cassettes. I went through 'em all:
Pre-recorded:
Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble...."Texas Flood"
SRV again......................................."Couldn't Stand The Weather"
Bob Marley..."20 Greatest Hits" On "Black Tulip" records. In verrrrrry fine print: "Made In Holland"
Robert Plant..."Shaken 'N Stirred"
Eagles..."Hell Freezes Over"
Sade..."Promise"
Tangerine Dream...Turn Of The Tides"
Neil Young..."Landing On The Water"
Robert Palmer..."Heavy Nova"
Bonnie Raitt..."Longing In Their Hearts"
No time like August to buy Christmas music:
"Jazz To The World" On Blue Note
And...the bummer of 'em all:
Little Feat..."Waiting For Columbus" MFSL Original Master HighFidelity cassette. Only one of a two-tape set. Sides 3 & 4. There had to be over 100 tapes and I went through EVERY other tape looking for a misfile...asked the guy running the sale...he couldn't help because he was selling them for someone else. Even called the owner...who called back & had no clue where the other tape might be

Oh, well...the other tape might turn up some day. The one I got sounds incredible.
Recorded blanks:
3 Scotch XS-II C-90s
9 Maxell XL-II C-90s. 3 vintages...the older style with the clear oval, the somewhat-newer all-gray style, and a few with the Maxell poster guy printed on the shell.
2 Maxell XL-II-S C-90s
2 Maxell XL-II-S C-100s
1 TDK SA-X C-100
I may keep a number of these as they are...since they're well-recorded and I don't have some of the artists. For example, I have zero Tower Of Power in any format in my collection...now I have "Bump City", "Urban Renewal" & "Back To Oakland"...so that's cool.
And...out of the Firestone Christmas/Robert Goulet/etc. LP selections:
Gerry Mulligan Quartet..."Paris Concert" World Pacific, 1957. Recorded 6/1/54 at the Salle Pleyel during the 3RD Paris Jazz Festival. Mulligan, Bob Brookmeyer, Red Mitchell & Frank Isola. Other than a split on the bottom of the jacket, in incredible condition & plays like a dream.
Cassettes were a dime each, the LP a quarter...so I blew $3.15.
