Huh, I'd kinda thought ol' Gordon was already dead. met him @ a UCalifornia (Santa Barbara) event ~ 15 years ago.

There is a PBS American Experience episode titled Silicon Valley about the early years of the business, of which Gordon Moore was a very large part. It's available on Prime via a PBS Documentaries subscription.

It covers the developments from Shockley Semiconductor to Fairchild Semiconductor and the beginning of Intel. I found it to be an incredibly interesting story. It covers the struggles with the new technology in the early years as well as the struggles within the various companies between the various people involved.

I'm sad to hear about his passing. I think I'll watch Silicon Valley again, haven't seen it in quite a while.

Interesting to think it's been 70 years since the first commercialization of the transistor, for hearing aids.

Still seems like yesterday.

Notice that the tube Royal is still available, for $50 less, the first transistors were expensive.

Zenith undercut the hearing aid competition @ 1/3 their typical cost.

Just read about Gordon. That era of solid-state was exciting, like the space race. It seemed that more people were interested in the next scientific breakthrough in 1965.
