Got Bose 601

I now am the proud owner of a pair of original Bose 601's. I am not familiar with Bose speakers, and they look a little differant with speakers all over. Can I find a description or layout of the 601, and a schematic of the crossover. Any mods for these?
Thanks

Found a set of these last year.Refoamed them and have them in the bedroom. They are power hungry and placement is critical .I'll try to send you a PM with a 601 guide....Tony

I have a pair of 601 Series 1. After getting the grills off I refoamed all 4 drivers and put in fresh caps. They sound very good. Placement is critical, like all speakers. I had to vacuum mine out...a lot of crap fell thru the top baffle hole. Easy to work on.IMG_9994.JPGIMG_9990.JPG

Wait, was there a 601 series 2? - it had 4 Tweeters on top with an 8 inch forward firing woofer. Looked different than yours.

IIRC, the 601 went all the way to series IV.
The originals and Series II are the best sounding speakers Bose ever made, IMO.

As stated the series I & II were some of the best Bose speakers ever made.

While not necessarily the "best" at anything, they tend to do everything pretty well, very fun and not fatiguing to listen to.

Get them up of the floor 6-8” and give them some good high current power to get the best out of them. Symmetrical placement about 8-12" from the back wall and 2-3' from the side walls can yield an impressive sound field.

Is the cabinet just a ported box? Or, does it have baffles or wave guides inside? I'm wondering if this is DIY-able? Looks quite simple, but maybe there is some unseen complexity?

They're pretty basic. IIRC, the crossover is just a cap or two, a resistor, and a lamp for tweeter protection.

Thanks. I would use my DSP and bi-amp them. I like the direct/reflect design concept, and since these get astronomical prices, I thought I might build my own—with a twist, of course. I would try to find a drivers and then use DSP to massage that "overlap" they use. I've had 901, 301, 201 but not 601. I didn't have the right kind of room for 901, but I did get the 301 to sound good, if a bit on the small side.
