Grace 707 tonearm height adjustment.

I have a Grace 707 tonearm mounted on a Technics SL110-a. I has a pretty crummy cartridge on it, and I want to change it out. With the current one it looks like the tonearm is a little high in the tail-end. Not that it matters so much at the moment, but when I change cartridges is there any way to adjust the height of that tonearm so I can get as close as possible to the correct VTA. I have been googling for the past 24 hours and I haven’t come up with any clear answers. Thanks all!

I have the manual. I can’t really make heads or tails as to how exactly to make the adjustment. I’m not super bright when it comes to tech manual and the like. Sorry! I loosened the arm lock screw and nothing seemed to move.

Time to take the arm and loosen all sorts of things and learn how it works. Should go up and down when the lock is released unless something else is holding it or it is stuck. Maybe @Sgt Shultz can drop in with pictures of how to do it as he has a 707 he talks about a lot. If you don't have the type II owner's manual maybe you can find it. It seems to have more info in it. Also search ak many have discussed the arm and maybe your topic came up in a discussion.

That picture seems to indicate the arm post will move up and down in the mount tube, the threaded part attached to the arm board. If loosening the arm lock doesn't let the arm post move maybe other screws are keeping it from moving or the phono cable is caught on something. It is supposed to be an adjustment. Hopefully it will reveal its secrets.

It was posted here the other day the the Japsnese writing on the platform sats do not over tighten as I guess the screws in that material can crack that piece. It happens on a few different arms.

There is a second set screw about 1/4 the way around the collar from the arm lock screw, a slot head screw inset into the collar so it isn't immediately apparent from the front. If it is tight, the tonearm can't be raised and lowered even when the arm lock screw is loose.

Thanks for this bit of insight!

What he said. Adjust the hidden backside screw so the arm will stay in place with the visible front side screw completely loose. The arm should be able to be moved up and down with slight resistance, feeling the tiny grooves cut in post. When you have it where you want it, tighten front screw firm but not too hard. You don't want to crush plastic tip on end of screw.

Just realized azimuth is adjustable on the 707! Fine-tuned it and it has made a bit of a difference, especially at the inner grooves. Unfortunately the set screw at the rear of the headshell, underneath, is a bit of a pain to access. But what an arm!
