Nope apparently dont have permission..I'm 99% sure it is. I received values of "0.67" and "0.6718" on my multimeters, which are both probably a little off.

Anyway if that is 671 ohms then it is within 9 ohms so guessing it is either your meter or production differences. Seems then new bodies are identical to old unless they have added a shield or something which would be visible with stylus off.I'm 99% sure it is. I still get hum on my Onkyo DD near the center of the record, but nothing that's distracted me from the music. In my particular case/system I have to either listen with headphones or turn the volume way up to hear it.

Try 1.65g with around .5g anti skateBlack3 owner reporting in.
- Date code E19. Sticker on the box reads "Black3"
- Shiny substance applied to the bodies of the Prestige 2 series has been omitted.
- No "earwax" potting in-between the coils. There is some in the upper cavity of the body where the stylus goes.
- Sounds pretty darn good. Don't have a Black1 or 2 to compare, but it definitely has the Grado sound. IGD slightly better that expected (tracking @1.75g)
If that was consistent across all the Prestige2 bodies my multimeters indicate that likely hasn't changed. These aren't Fluke-quality so I'm sure they're a hair off.

From what I heard from John Grado the substance was chosen for its damping characteristics. What type of goo it is remains a mystery. Grado is not saying

Just got the new Opus3 from John Grado...the entry level in the Timbre series...comparing it to Gold2/8mz...straight out of the box....holy cow!! This cart is simply amazing! Detail retrieval up the ass! Superb tracking...for those whose Grados hum (l have never had a hum issue) this cart is super silent...for $275 retail a steal imo

If the stuff has dried our and gone solid it's probably best to retire that cart imo...a new prestige body is probably superior anyway

That really depends on which body. If we are talking about a first-gen Prestige or Prestige1, I would have to agree. But some of those vintage bodies are amazing, particularly the top-end gold-clad F-M series. They have unique voicings that modern bodies just can't quite match. Then there were the Signatures... They are truly worth keeping alive. Nothing in any generation of the Prestige Series will compare to a top-flight Signature. Internally, those would be more comparable to the high-end wood-body cartridges of today.
They can be potted with other materials, but it would be nice to know what Grado actually uses.

I agree that the long bodies were great. Even some of the M series shorties still had some of that F and G mojo. But, better than Signature? The top end F-1 and G-1 bodies were close to as good as Grado got. (With the assistance of some parallel loading, of course.) But... It probably depends on which Signature body we are talking about, and with which stylus it is being used. Channel separation limitations are more inherent in the moving components than in the coils and magnets. (I don't know that I have much faith in Grado's specs, but the advertised capability of an average channel separation of 25 db is still pretty damned decent, if we are talking about that average being measured from 20Hz to 55kHz. F and G separation specs were averaged out to 30kHz, IIRC. Many other cartridge manufacturers will only give a separation measurement at 1kHz, if that says anything.)
The differences between the two body series are less likely to be in channel separation, and are more likely to be in wire type, core design, damping, coil wire length (aka output level,) and the level of precision in windings. Issues like losses, eddy currents, resonances and imbalances between coils would have been minimized in the top-shelf products. This leads to a cleaner, flatter, airier, more detailed, less resonant and ring-y presentation. The top-end Signature models were Grado's highest-end offering, each having been auditioned and signed off by Joe Grado himself. While you may not personally prefer what you have heard from them, don't think that Signatures were an inferior product. Anyone willing to trade one for a Prestige body would be a good candidate to have their head examined by a qualified mental health professional.

I didn't know Marc passed. It makes me sad even if I never met him. Just exchanged some emails when he helped me with a bent 8mz cantilever. He's been great in attempting everything he could. I have a Signature 8MX body I bought from him and I'm waiting for a new 8MZ stylus. I will cherish it for life... So so sorry....I would never trade a Signature for a Prestige. Ha! Much of the cost and expense of the Signature series was due to the expensive styli. They featured hardened cantilevers and top class extremely low mass nude diamonds.
Really missing Marc now. This is hard.
