Grammy's - looking Forward to Feb 9th.

I caught some of the Grammy Awards last night. Can tell I'm getting old when I don't know half the artisits and only some of the songs.

But, did catch the plug for the 2 hr Beatles 50th Anniversary show coming up the 9th of Feb. Any takers? The Highway Men reincarnation (for the show at least) was ok but did it strike anyone that they seems very awkward? Willie looked like he had stage fright for god sakes.

Guess there isn't much interest in the show here on AK. I watched all of it, some very interesting collaborations. Keith Urban and Gary Clark Jr was a highlight. If you haven't seen Keith Urban live his shows are lots of jamming between him and his other guitar player that stands on his right. I'd like to see Gary Clark Jr also, hopefully this summer.
 
Based on the promo's, I was sure this years Grammys was going to be pretty good. Just ok for me. I'm more interested about Feb. 9th., I just hope they don't screw it up.
 
Sir Paul meets Nirvana

It was good to see Sir Paul and Dave Grohl, along with Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear, get the Grammy for best rock song. I have the album, Sound City Real to Reel, and it has got some great stuff on it. Of special note, at least for me, is a song written by Jim Keltner called, If I Were Me. I highly recommend the Sound City documentary as well. As for the rest of the Grammy's, I'm with ScramMan2, Gary Clark Jr. and Keith Urban was the highlight for me along with Sir Paul and Ringo.
 
Because i love music….

I avoid watching the Grammys. Just another vehicle to promote and reward mediocrity.
 
Nothing mediocre about Maria Schneider, Gregory Porter, Randy Brecker or Wayne Shorter. All of whom are 2014 Grammy winners. You won't find them on the show however you can hear them win by checking in online.
 
I'm as big a Beatles fan as anybody.....

But I'm thinking Paul's voice is getting a little shakey.

I did think Ringo looked pretty good, and also perfomed pretty well. I wish Ringo would have done "It Don't Come Easy" instead of "Photograph".
 
I can't remember the last time I watched the Grammy awards. I'm pretty sure I haven't missed anything important.

I switched back and forth between the Grammys and the ProBowl. They were both bad enough to be somewhat entertaining.

Here's the Onion's take on it:

LOS ANGELES—With the 56th Grammy Awards just days away, industry experts are predicting that the songs that are always playing at moderate volume from ceiling-mounted speakers in retailers, gas station canopies, and mall food courts will take home the biggest awards at Sunday’s ceremony. “It is bound to be a huge night for that song that was playing in the movie theater before they started the trailers and the other one that you kind of know from when you go out to eat lunch—both are virtual locks for Grammy gold,” said L.A. Times music critic Randall Roberts, who noted that the song from that car commercial that your coworker sometimes absentmindedly hums was a also a strong contender for Record of the Year. “Any of the songs that you’ve learned most of the chorus to through shopping at clothing stores or supermarkets but couldn’t actually name—those are the ones you should be watching Sunday night. Basically, if you’ve heard a Jeep go by blaring it a couple of times in the past few months, it is almost certain to take the night’s top honors.” Roberts confirmed that the songs that you turn on to drown out those in the background were not nominated.

We TIVOed the show last night and watched bits here and there throughout the show.

What the heck is with Kris Kristofferson ... he did a verse of Highwayman with Willie and seemed lost in the lyrics ...
Maybe all those years of hard living took their toll?
But Willie seemed pretty with it, as did Merl Haggard ...

a few other shining moments here and there -
but the 3 1/2 hour Grammy show just may be the best half hour on Music television ...
 
Exactly what I thought, Heather. Something out of sync between them...maybe a Willie moment before the show.....

I confess I enjoyed the sentiment of Ringo's "Photograph." I think it was all the "never seen before" pics (unless you bought the book) as the backdrop that were touching. A preview of Feb 9th?
 
I'm not a fan of Metallica, but they were great with Lang Lang. I see LL in the summer with the Chicago Symphony at my summer gig @ Ravinia.
 
They weren't on the show. Charlie Musslewhite and Ben Harper got best blues album with Get Up! Now that is good stuff!!
