I picked up the Grand Funk Live lp 2 record set today for 4 bucks. It was pretty clean and hardly any scratches and came with the poster. Is it just me though, but does the recording of that lp sound kind of muffled? Yet if the lp is defective at least I only paid 4 bucks for it. So I'm not complaining. :music: Now if I could only find E Pluribus Funk in decent shape all the ones I've ran into are horrible!

one of the worst recordings

ever made imo. This is the reason alot of people don't buy live recordings,this one sounds like someone held up a microphone in the middle of the crowd and recorded it. :smoke:
 
I had my I-pod hooked up in the garage the other day. Into the Sun came on, I believe it was the encore on this lp. Man, that's a great tune.
 
Thanks guys! I just gave the lp a cursory cleaning yesterday to try it out, but cleaned it really well today with the homemade brew as it was clean, but I wanted to make sure all the stuff was off of it. I can't wait to hear it. I think I like their earlier period much better than the "Top 40" period which is still good. Any earlier Grand Funk lps I should look out for? I already have, "Survival", "Closer To Home", "Grand Funk" and "On Time". I have the "Top 40" period stuff also.
 
I think you did well since it came with the poster. I have the CD along with my original LP. They reordered the tracks on the CD to match the performance. They LP had to be arranged to fit the vinyl.

I think you have all the early ones except for E Pluribus Funk.
 
I needed to have a little lie down this afternoon (I'm not gettin' any younger), so I put this lp on with a set of Koss headphones. It IS a horrible recording, but by and large the songs themselves are ok. Can you imagine how nice they would sound being performed by competant musicians? I mean, let's be realistic, Mark Farner?

Farner's guitar playing wasn't very good & his singing not much better, but oh, what a glorious mane he had in his prime. The right hair for that job. He had that cool (upper) arm-bands thing going, too.

Grand Funk was far from technical,but it didn't matter. They were out to rock and rock hard. They sure did that! These tunes might not have been as good with great technical musicians. Nothing but Footstompin' Music.

My comment was purely retrospective (damn, is that even a word? :D). Grand Funk Railroad-yes they were still called that- was my first concert, and I was whoopin' and hollerin' like everybody else.
 
Thanks for the insight guys! Aside from the really bad sonics and fidelity of the recording, I think I did well for $4. Now if I can only find a decent copy of E Pluribus Funk in decent shape. Are there any key tracks on that lp?

the aforementioned "Footstompin' Music" stands out.
 
I should open up mine when I get home tonight, you never know what could fall out! :banana: An early example of multitasking.
 
I saw them at Shea Stadium - they played just about same line up as this album.

Bass player was from ? and the Mysterians I bleive. 96 Tears... :smoke:
 
Man, some of you guys are tough. I mean this was 1970! Listen closely to Jimmy Page of that era. Kind of sloppy as well. If you want to compare them as musicians check out the Bosnia CD from a few years back.

Other standouts from E Pluribus - Loneliness, People Let's Stop th War
