Grand Prix 8600

I was given this Grand Prix 8600 stereo with the matching speakers and it actually sounds really good considering the auxiliary input is shared with the phono function. The only issue I know of right now is the cassette player isn't working correctly. However I can't find any information about it or the company online. All I've found are old & current listings selling the model I have. If anyone knows anything about the model 8600 or possibly the age, I'd appreciate it. BTW this actually has a little bit of weight and seems well made for something that looks like it was somewhat inexpensive when made. Thanks.

If I had to guess I'd say Singapore or Hong Kong? gran prix was usually found at discounted department stores and was probably just a reseller of imported products. Companies like this would buy a few hundred of these, have their name slapped on the front then sold locally here, there may be other identical models from other companies floating around.

Sometimes the quality can be pretty nice, Reader's Digest had stereo equipment and it isn't 1/2 bad surpisingly. Good luck finding documentation, these units were meant to be tossed at the end of their lives. The cassette deck is probably sourced from a company that made 1000's of them, so servicing it might be easier if you can identify it. This thread has some different popular designs from back then.

Tanashin Denki?

Everyone is talking about Tanashin these days; are they the ones making all of the new cassette deck mechanicals? If I find something I'll post it...
