Grand Rapids MI BIC Beam Box

That is a later and less expensive version of the Beam Box, for those that did not care about the fancier looks of the more expensive version. It was also slightly smaller than the top model.

Looks like a four channel receiver and some of the speakers look interesting. Otherwise, most look so-so.

Oh, great ... more junk for me to trip over ... must ... resist ...

(ah, crap)

Couldn't pass up the beam box for $5 ... talked em down from $10. Real nice condition except for the missing knob inserts - only damage occurred trying to peel of the silly price sticker. Also scored a few interesting 78rpm long play collections for a couple bucks more. The Dvorak MIGHT be an arrangement I haven't heard ... can't really say as there's no credits for orchestra, performance date, conductor, or whoever it was who farted a couple minutes into the 2nd movement.

(Anybody know anything about these Firestone collections? As I say, no credits.)

(We can all hope there was no additional "movement" involved, as it did sound a bit wet.) <G>

Anyway ... ya ... everything else was pretty much junk.

* Actually went to look at the Zenith world radio, but that was gone. Also had a real nice Grundig home console, with world radio, and an upper scale table that looked interesting, but that was already spoken for.

So what'll ya give me for it? <G>

(And yes, it is the 300 ohm model.)

Dug up my conical Shure cartridge and currently ripping to digital. Audacity has some neat tricks for speed conversion, so I'm going 32 bit at 33rpm ... that should be about as good as it gets ... kinda like a po' boy half mastered, only different. Only real trick will be determining the equalization, as that tended to be all over the place before RIAA ...

Great project for a rainy day, anyway!
