Thanks for these links, posted almost 7 years ago. I've seen them both before, but your post helped me to find them again. I've just got round to refurbing my Garrard 301 now. I got it more than 10 years ago and have only used it lightly because I wanted at least to give the motor some attention. I just got the main bearing and idler wheel sorted out when I first got it.

Wonder how many know about the "prototype" Garrard 301 that looked quite different from the one we
all know and recognize?
 
More info on this would be welcome. There is no mention of a prototype 301 in The Garrard Story by E W and B E Mortimer (2016), though there is a picture on page 56 of a simple prototype record changer that they decided not to proceed with.
