Who could ask for a better day? I had a piece that I wanted Terry to have a go at. To get to Terry's shop I have to drive by Rogersville, Tn. I thought to myself, I wonder if Sandy would like to ride along? I called him and he said "Sure!". I have never met Sandy face to face and when I pulled up in front of his house and got to shake hands it was like I was greeting an old friend. He invited me in, introduced me to Gomez and (I'm sorry Sandy, I can't remember the name) his other little dog. He then proceeded to give me the grand tour of his kingdom ending with a look at the "Ship's Radio Room". WOW! You have to see it to believe it!

We left his house and he guided me into Knoxville with an accompanying commentary about all the interesting sights along the way. Many, many neat stories about anything and everything.

We got to Terry's house and spent a while talking to him about things electronic, automotive, and life in general. It came to be time to leave and let Terry earn his living and as we walked out the door we met another customer coming in. I didn't know who it was but Terry and Sandy obviously knew him. After just a couple of minutes the man introduced himself to me. It was KentTeffeteller! So here I am, just a guy that has spent some time on AK, reading posts and gaining knowledge about equipment and music and all of a sudden, I'm in the midst of three of the giants of AK! WOW!

We talked for a while about ..... everything. It came to be time for Sandy and I to leave and the ride back to Sandy's house was again filled with very enjoyable conversation and more tales about the local history. A short tour through Rogersville with historical commentary from Sandy, and then a ride back up to Piney Flats with my head spinning from everything that had happened.

Thanks to Sandy, Terry, and Kent for a great day.:yes:

I VERY much enjoyed it, too. Got to see/shoot the breeze w/ Terry, John, & Kent...GORGEOUS day, about 75 tops. nice wind/breeze blowin'...Wish John coulda stayed, would have been a GREAT day to Snap some Caps...Only sour note, Terry said the 2 little TVs were on their Last Legs..They WORK, but they WON'T fsr into the Future...He DID get my Philco 37-33 going again, I hooked it up to a "Ship's Radio Room" style antenna, & it CAME ALIVE..
 
I sure would have liked to be at that party. A friend lives a few miles from Terry and I have him drop off and pick up gear on occasion. I will when I'm in the area but that isn't too often.

Nice ride through upper east Tennessee. Fun roads.

I've always taken the Interstate to go to and from Terry's before. Sandy took me on a much more scenic route.

...And even the Gods of Nocksfull Traffic were smiling on us...No delays, no moments of abject terror, NADA... Anyone who's ever been to/travelled much in Knoxville will appreciate that..For a relatively small city, Knoxville can have some of the WORST traffic imaginable....Altho the last time they "Re-Did" the Interstates, I-40 & I-75, I THINK they got it right..FINALLY.It took a special kind of STUPID to have the interstate that goes from Michigan to Florida, I-75, & the one that goes from North Carolina to California, I-40, meet SMACK DAB right in the middle of a largish town, along w/several older US routes...We called it "Malfunction Junction", it was obsolete before it was even finished.

One of these days when my wife & I cruise to FL to visit my Bro & Uncle we'll be sure to make a detour through Scenic Rogersville & hook up with the loquacious Mr. G.:)
 
Rub it in. I'm washing and waxing my car today and it's whipping my ass. But when I look around outside it is a good day to get yer ass whipped. High of 75° today.

There are a lot of people on this site that I would love to get to meet face to face. Alas, we are spread out all over the globe so most I will never get to shake hands with.

He didn't ask, but he would have been MORE than welcome...the Ship's Radio Room is a "Work-In-Progress"...Maybe SOMEDAY,I'll get somebody to stop by who knows a little more than I do about certain things, & I can get a DECENT antenna up again...I HAD a very good antenna up a few years back, but the tree I had it attached to blew down in a vicious thunderstorm, & I never have rebuilt it... That, & my DREAM is a 30-40' Rohn self-supporting tower that I can mount my big Winegard FM antena, w/a rotator, & a good distribution amp...This area CAN be an FM DXer's DREAM...

surely sandy theres a few hams on ak that could get you setup with a good s/w antenna.i myself just moved recently and need to get my 82ft alpha delta dx plus back in the air. my lot is alot smaller than my previous one and im going to have to compromise somewhat but at least ill have a outside antenna again.i do have my discone antenna hooked up on the roof along with my cb antenna.the discone is good for fm but not for dxing.a 40ft rohn with a rotator and a winegard sounds like fun although im more of a am dxer.
