Pick these for free Pioneer S1010 speakers

I pick these up today for free 2 sets of Pioneer S1010 speakers. The all 4 cabinets are in fantastic shape. The 4 woofers need re foaming and the 4 passive needs re-foaming too. Also one woofer, the cone is gone. Three of the passive are really mess up. Thats the only problems I see so far. Anyway I have my work cut out for me but it will be worth in the end. Cant wait to hear them.

You actually have found the rarer mirror imaged version. I have NEVER seen anyone find a set that didn't at least need a cone repaired if not replaced. Those poly graphite cones are really delicate and have not stood up to the test of time.

So how hard was it to get the passive re-foamed since it is a odd size

The pair that I had needed both woofers and passives to be reconed. It was hard, but I found someone semi-local that was able to do it. Those poly graphite cones are loooong gone, so I had them done in paper.

HomerjSimpson will be helping me. More than likely have to use paper cone with one set. The other set hopefully can be fix without re-coning

One of my passives was cracked but all there. I epoxied it from the back side. I then used a 15 inch surround and spliced it in three sections. I did what I had to do and the results were actually quit good / speaker sounded fine. I;m guessing the slight added weight to the passive and the spliced surround might have changed the parameters some but that ended up having every pleasing bass. Was not wild over the mids and top end though.

The S1010 is quite decent and probably a step up from most of the HPM lineup for most listeners. (HPM-200 probably excluded here). I was under the impression that the ribbon had some sort of beryllium coating on it, but Kelly had these and probably knows better than most. I'd trust his advice. The pair I heard were tweaked a little bit with more mass on the PR, the owner claimed it helped get rid of a little bass muddiness and tightened things up a bit.

While trying to find info on the S-1010s tweeter, I just realized that when i was a kid, I had a pair of HPM-1100 woofers sitting in my room. Both graphite cones were lost to a friends finger tapping test. I had them set aside for a huge transmission line sub for a friends GMC Jimmy at the time of the shattering.

There was a Speaker Repair place in Florida that has/ had replacement poly cones to fir those (Simply Spealers?). They are not graphite cone but are poly cones with the same weight, voice coil, etc!! They did a recone on a pair I had and did a great job!

Do they sale the poly cones or do they have to recone for you

Not sure who DC was referring to, but one of AK's advertisers, The Speaker Exchange, is in Florida. I've had a couple of speakers worked on by them and bought some refoaming kits there & had good service. I'm pretty sure they sell kits for reconing as well as offer the service. Linky at bottom, among advertisers. Their site has an email address.
