Greetings from Brazil

cyromadeu, Good to have you here.
Maybe score me some real bossa nova??
Good luck with your upgrades.

Hi zman. youtube for Tom Jobim, Zimbo Trio, Milton Banana Trio, João Gilberto (very idiosyncratic: love him or hate him!), Os Cariocas, Vitor Assis Brasil, Luis Carlos Vinhas, Nara Leão, Hermeto Pascoal (not bossa nova, experimental, a nondescript musical wizard). Enjoy!

Hi...welcom to AK....i am also kind of newby.
Visited Brasil two years ago......and fell in love with it.

Can you tell me...is there an audio scene in Brasil? (i mean clubs, shops etc.)

In an schematic view I would say here in Brazil we have mass market audio, a high-end niche restricted to high-income people, and scarce in-between options.

I will check them out on you tube. I am showing my age but what I enjoy are artist like Baden Powell , Paulinho da costa , Tamba Trio and more.
Of course I do enjoy walter wanderly ,antonio carlos jobim and others. many of their albums made it here to the US, but it is the "big in brazil" ones that I enjoy most.
it is a most intoxicating music.
Thanks

Yes! Baden, Paulinho and Tamba Trio are a must and I enjoy them a lot. And of course they should be included in the list. (My memory is showing my age too!...) All of them belong to the stream of the "big brazil" ones. Worth listen to all of them. None will disappoint you. Also look at Ernesto Nazareth, Noel Rosa, Paulinho da Viola, Nelson Sargento, Canhoto da Paraíba, Capiba ("frevo" - a northeast popular rhythm mostly played during carnival. Dont be affraid it is not tourist stuff!). And Antônio Nóbrega, GREAT GREAT GREAT composer, singer, dancer, musician, actor - a "brincante", a kind of oneman show whose art has affinity to the commedia dell´arte and burlesque tradition - linked to the "sertão" (deep northteast) popular culture faraway influenced by the moresque culture brought by our Iberian colonizer ... BTW try tune on www.radiomec.com.br (FM 98.9 MHz) on thursdays (around)11:00PM brazilian time. Worth listen to the show "Bossa Moderna" presented by Tarik de Souza. A good option to hear non-stereotyped traditional and contemporary brazilian music.

That would be us, the Portuguese.:D

The moors ( arabs) in turn, occupied a great part of the Iberian penninsula for over seven centuries, so it is little wonder our culture shows deep arabic influences.
