Good evening, everyone. The information and expertise here on AK has served me well as I've dabbled in audio over the years. I thought it was high time I went legit and started a profile to contribute in return.
I'm no audiophile, but as a music obsessive and player I've always invested in quality audio components for my listening environments — be they apartment living rooms, loft offices, or rumbling CTA commutes. I've had my fair share of headphones and earbuds and speaker systems, but the hobby fully crystalized for me when I upgraded from a cheap Sony belt-drive table to a Technics 1200 in the mid-2000s.
My current setup:
- Marantz 2230 receiver
- Technics 1200 turntable
- Polk Audio TSi100 bookshelf speakers (known weak point)
- Grado SR80 headphones
I've recently decided to embark on a second setup for my home office, where I do the bulk of my design work these days. I've given myself two constraints as a fun challenge — nothing can be new, and I can't spend more than $500 total, including rehab supplies.
So far, I've acquired:
- a NAD 312 integrated amplifier
- an AR XA turntable
I'm excited to start the journey with this second setup, and will be sure to share process and progress along the way. Nice to meet everyone!
