Hello,

I've read some threads on this site over the past two years but have finally decided to register as a user. I'm a music listening enthusiast; no home theatre here. My kit includes a Yamaha RX-497, Yamaha DVD-S1800BL, a Boston Acoustics CS SUB 10 and a pair of JBL ES30CH speakers on 24 inch stands. I also own an Apple TV for playing the music from my itunes library on my Mac. In the future I'd like to replace the receiver with an integrated amp (one that supports an ipod dock). Anyways, I'm looking forward to learning more from this site as well as contributing to the discussions.

Your RX-497 should do fine! Look into a DAC and connect the Mac through USB (to the DAC) to the RX-497.

You're in good company. Not too many HT fans here either. (Not that there's anything wrong w/home theater)

Personally, I've never even heard a home theater set-up, so maybe I don't know that I really love it.
