Grommes Precision ID Request

I came across what looks to be a promising little unit for a small restoration project (small silver tube amp w/ cage on top). Only problem is the owner knows next to nothing about it. The drive is a bit (1hr) so I'd like to at least be informed about what it is before committing to the drive and the project. From what I understand, Grommes Precision was some pretty nice gear, but I'm open to being corrected.

Any idea? All I can make out is "Grommes Precision" and "For Service." I've scoured the Radio Museum page on Grommes, but came up empty handed. Thank you for any and all help.

I have a Grommes S-20. Seems well built. It's just a mono PP EL84 sound reinforcement/music/paging type amp and I've never connected it to a "hi-fi" system.

It's now used for a makeshift guitar amp and at some point I will modify the front end for more gain stages and tone stack per some AX84 plans to fully convert it to a guitar amp.

I should note for clarity that the one in that pic doesn't look anything like the S-20. My apology if it seemed that was my implication.

I'm thinking the LJ "Little Jewel" series. All of them through the LJ-7 have only the four knobs on the front, but the LJ-8 has at least one more switch... maybe two. I have a schematic (and a similar knob...) if that's what it is.

Im thinking more grommes pa amp. Grommes lj amps are labled grommes.grommes later became grommes prescision which this amp is labled.

Yeah, the OP's amp may be a PA or some such amp. Is that a 1/4" microphone jack to the right of centre?

I have a Grommes Hi Fidelity 61PG mono 6L6 integrated amp and it sounds pretty good. Even has a choke in the power supply. I also have the matching tuner which was a shared model with Harman Kardon; the only difference being the branding on the glass. Who knows, maybe they worked together on the 61PG too. Considering that Mr's Harman and Kardon previously worked at Bogen, maybe working with Grommes was a shot at David Bogen.

Grommes

An old name from the 50's based in Chicago area.
I remember them sponsoring many FM station stuff.

90% sure it's a PA amp. Also 90% sure it's not a Little Jewel.

(An LJ-6 was the first amp I ever built, back in the dark ages.)

Happy trails,

Grommes used the same full range output xformer whether the amp is PA or High Fi. 14 watt PA has the same xformer as 14 watt hi-fi. I found this out when I needed a schem for a S60 tube PA amp and talked to Grommes directly.

These amps usually have unbelievable sound quality and the S60's are no exception. They are being used in a mobile DJ setup and they are best sounding amps, blowing away my one SS amp, both in clarity and detail. The detail actually carries out onto the crowd and dance floor.
