I'd give it a proper scrub. If that doesn't help, a glue peel is the last hope. If it's still noisey, it's just the way it is.Picked a DSOTM Japanese pro series LP. It is a bit noisy especially in the quiet passages. I cleaned once so far in the US machine for 5 minutes. A bit better but do you guys think it is still dirty or is it damaged? I still crackles and pops. Thanks for your input

I have lots of Japanese records, they are usually very quiet I hope I can save this one. They say this pressing is a very good DSOTM sounding version...I have Japanese relatives who have sent me many Japanese LPs over the years. They are weirdly pristine, visually, but usually quite noisy. I imagine they use a very poor quality vinyl.
My experience is Japanese are, as a whole, the quietest and highest quality vinyl out there, in general. I rarely have much noise, if any, at all after a proper cleaning, even with ones that don't visually look perfect. There are exceptions of course. It's hard to tell in the photos if the white stuff in the grooves is a contaminant or just reflections. Are you doing a vacuum cleaning after the US?
From what I understand the Japanese always used virgin vinyl, wheres the US and other places quite often used recycled vinyl, especially after the early 70's.My experience with Japanese goods, apart from the very best, cost-is-no-object stuff, is that the excellent reputation comes from good design and meticulous implementation, NOT from good ingredients. They are, after all, a resource-poor country.
Having said that, vinyl lives in both worlds, mass consumption and richy rich, so now I am curious what the standard quality of their vinyl actually is. And if they have specific grades of quality vinyl, or if it is haphazard, like it is in N. America.
I've always been very impressed with my Japanese copy. You described it well.So they are all a bit noisy, the Japanese being the noisiest, I am sure it’s mostly from over use, anyway.
The quietest version is the MOFI version , it is is also the most laidback smoothies soft in a way. I think the MOFI version is the one you want to listen to regularly.
The Japanese version is the one that attacks you and grabs your attention, engages you to sit upend listen, enfaces on detail and very holographic. I’ll need to get a better copy because I think it is the best overall but my copy is very noisy, too bad.
The Canadian copy is very good to but it feel it’s less focused, like everyone is playing on the same frequency at the same time?
Voila, my 2cents on the subject.
I’ll take other pictures on the scrubbed and US record again ans post
Update ! whoa !
Yesterday I scrubbed with a paint trimmer and detergent soap the LP, followed by a 15 minute US wash. it’s so much better and quieter (maybe a pop here and there ) I am soo happy.
At first I thought the volume was down when I didn’t hear the normal snap crackle and pops …
What a save
Yep, a scrub is needed in most cases, IMO. UCM are for fine polish, not the nitty gritty.Update ! whoa !
