Grounding the turntable...

Hi.

I have a turntable connected to a preamp, that I turn connects to the amplifier. I have a vintage pioneer amplifier, that hums like crazy of not grounded.

Should I connect the ground wire from the amplifier to the pre amp or from the amplifier to the turntable. Or from the turntable to the pre amp? Or both? :)

One more thing- grounding wire from TT has to be routed exactly the same way as phono cables. Best method is to wrap it around phono cable on the way to preamp.
 
It wasn't a trick question, Luis. I was wondering if your amp really was humming (because of some other ground loop issue) rather then the turntable ground wire and if so, how you determined that. If the turntable's ground wire attachment solved this problem (seems like a strange problem that you should have known the answer to) then I guess you have solved the problem. Was this with your Pioneer PLX-1000 table?

I don't understand this answer.

"Grounding" can be a very confusing term. The wire from the turntable doesn't need to be sunk into the ground, connected to copper pipes or connected to mains earth - it just needs to be connected to the grounding terminal on the pre-amp.
The Pioneer shouldn't need to be connected to mains earth to prevent hum.
 
To the preamp is the standard practice but really how hard is it for you to test all the possibilities yourself? And then tell us which is the most quiet? ;)
 
Ground or earth if you please really do not have much to do with what grass or other things grow in, but rather is relative to the "0 point" of most circuitry.

all have ground terminals on the rear

I have daisy-changed them all together... did not harm anything

but to the OP question... TT ---> Preamp
