Guy's response:

Just to make sure it doesn't get lost in the cloud should the above article go away, here's Guy's final paragraph, FTW:

"Lick my sweaty taint you pretentious, arrogant, pencil pushing dickweed. I hope you enjoy scribbling critiques for your own blog when the Internet finally kills your wheezing, geriatric husk of a business model, you irrelevant, chirping assbag. I'm an icon, you're artifact!"

I'm thinking of using the first sentence for my new sig line. :D

having had some personal experience with him. he's a marketing stunt and that all. the food network should be a clear sign. we have a close personal friend who works with him often and guy is ok as a fella to work with in the production world. other than that he's a talking head for salesmanship's sake and thats all.

That review is a hilarious read. I have never been able to take this Guy Fieri guy seriously. There are amazing people on foodie tv these days - Lidia Bastianich, Mario Batali, Giada DeLaurentis, Ina Garten, perhaps a few others. Fieri's response galvanized my impression of him. He's a dipshit.

I saw him on the Today Show this morning. My bet is the food sucks. His argument was that the restaurant had just opened and needs time to work out the kinks.

I liked Anthony Bourdain's quip. Bourdain has a contentious relationship with most Food Network "chefs".

"The man, the legend, the guy who just dropped a 500-seat deuce into Times Square ... "

Maybe Gordon Ramsey needs to pay him a visit!

Maybe they can combine Ramsey's show and Guy's show into one, and use the leftover hour to put on a real cooking show. You know, one where people actually educate about cooking. I think the "reality TV-ization" of the food network stinks. It seems like every time I turn it on, it's either Ramsey screaming, or a food "competition".

I don't think Ramsay has any shows on The Food Network. Master Chef on Fox has Ramsay not screaming and actually helping cooks out. Hell's Kitchen on Fox has Ramsay doing nothing but screaming. The best Ramsay show is The F Word on BBC America, but I'm not sure it's still on. Fun, educational, no screaming.

I guess that shows how long it's been since I watched the network on a regular basis.
I'm in Canada, so it's a different schedule, but I checked out what is coming on today. A lot of Restaurant:Takeover and Restaurant:Stakeout type shows, and competition shows. Diners, Dives, and Drive-Ins, too.

Yup, pretty much my take on him as well. He spends way to much time on Triple D oohing and aahing over typical diner fare.

I've always liked the Food Channel, but it's never been the same since Alton Brown's "Good Eats" went off, and then when I found out that the competitors on Iron Chef knew the secret ingredient before the show taped and had plenty of time to work out all their recipes beforehand...

Now it's just another reality channel. "Cupcake Wars"?!? :wtf:

The Food Channel is to food as MTV is to music.

I was thinking the same thing.

I wonder if there is a market for a "retro" food channel? Nothing but old(er) shows that are about cooking. I suppose most people are not clamoring for re-runs of Biba's Italian Kitchen, but I'd take it.

Hmm. The review slams the restaurant. Most of the customer reviews slam the restaurant. So I suspect the restaurant sucks.

I'm thinking the only pretentious , arrogant dickweed is Fieri himself.

Referring to yourself as "an icon" is a dead giveaway.
