Imagine there was a guy, who had a sound system that was evolving quite beautifully over time. Pretty high end stuff, vintage stuff. But the one thing that he felt really cheap about, and confused about, was cables. In particular, speaker wire. Because he never knew whether it was a total rip off, or worth the money. And even though he'd drop $500 on a phono cartridge, or tonearm, or $1500 on a turntable, it pained him to imagine spending $150 on speaker cables. (Dumb, I know. The guy's a bit weird, ok?)

His system sounds pretty great, even with the $30 he spent on stranded copper wire at home depot.

What would you say to this (imaginary, fictitious) guy?

What cables would you recommend to him for less than $200, if he needed, say 15 feet in total?

What's the best damn value in good speaker wire?

Thanks,
David

Just fer shitzengiggles ... what wire is this fictitious person currently running? Anything better than zip cord should work well enough at those lengths. I'd pay more attention to the connections before going all crazy on uber glitz wire. Clean and tight makes right, and a drop of deoxit gold on each can work wonders for maximizing connectivity, especially with spring clips which tend to suffer severe suckage if ignored.

I'd say your "friend" is a pretty astute guy and knows where the value lies. By that, I mean it appears all his other gear was carefully optimized or selected for the clear benefits they'd bring to the system.

If it's just a case of being reluctant to spend money on something he really does want, he could ask his wife to buy them.
