GX747 Help!

I just received my GX 747 Akai. When I put 7 1/2 plastic reels on they rub slightly against the bezel on the face plate. When putting 10" reels on with NAB adapters, the tape rubs hard against the outside of the reel. (Yes, I have the adapters set properly), it looks like both motors are too far in the body by about 1/8" inch. I took the top off and nothing looked bent. I could not see any way of adjusting the motors depth. Any one have any ideas?

There should be a way of adjusting the reel decks. My Pioneers and Teacs have this ability. Tascam has spacers. Unfortunately, I do not have experience with the Akai. You have a very nice deck. I would suggest geting a services manual. Someone will jump in with a solution.

You have to remove the top cover, and the reinforcement bar across the front edge has to come off as well. The motors themselves do not adjust back and forth. You need to adjust the reel tables that attach to the motor shaft. There should be two set screws on each reel table, slightly loosen these and set your table depth so that the tape rides as much to the center of the reel as possable. (See Attached Pictures)
