H H Scott LK 150 , LC 21

Hello,
I'm new to tube stereo equipment and recently bought some from a lady that had it in storage for about 9 years. She said her father who was an engineer bought it in the 1960's and built it from a kit. She said he passed away in 1970 and her mother used it until she passed away and then she stored it.
The amp is a H H Scott LK 150, preamp LC 21 and tuner LT112B. I know nothing about tube equipment and was looking for advice on what I should have done to it before I started using it?

Thanks

Did you already power it up? If so, you got lucky. If it hasn't been used in 9 years, it is usually best to check for shorts or dried up power filter capacitors with a voltmeter and variac for a soft start to make sure that there are no issues. Sometimes filter caps can be reformed if they are not totally gone.

If you fired it up with no issues (smoke, blowing fuses, etc.), before using it on a daily basis, best thing to do is to re-cap all coupling capacitors, out of tollerance resistors so you can get the best performance that the LK-150 is capable of.

People usually replace the power filter no matter what, but I myself would see no need unless there is unwanted hum or fuse blowing issues due to the filter or rectifier tube being shorted.

Kudos to you for getting ahold of an LK-150. I have always wanted to find one of those as I already own an LK-48 and LK-72. Hope the best to you and welcome to AK.

Browse through the database and also note that I found the LK-150 at #67.

I own and enjoy quite a few pieces of HH Scott. Once properly re-capped, you're going to have many years of listening enjoyment. The LK-150 and LC-21 are 2 of their most desirable pieces. Congratulations!!

When I went and looked at them I turned on each one for about 5 seconds or less, as soon as I saw the tubes glow I turned them off and unplugged them. I could not believe how heavy the LK 150 was. I didn't see any smoke come from them so I hope I didn't hurt anything. I appreciate everyones advice and look forward to learning more about tube equipment.
