H/K award series vs. Fisher

Hello fellow AKers. Anyone have opinions on the Harman Kardon award series vs. a fisher 500B/C series? I've got my eye on an H/K A300, but may just hold out for the right Fisher. I know the Fishers have a lot more power, which is probably a good thing.

It's mainly a question of the quality of the output and power transformers vs actual output power. The 'lesser' stuff might be about equiv to a decent console pull amp, the better costlier stuff got better costlier "iron".

A-500 has output transformers that are better than Fishers... A300 aren't big enough to approach them on the low end. Bass response is measured by the pound, after all...

I have both a HK A300 and Fisher KX-100 (probably closest to a 400 receiver).

Both sound great and I plan on keeping both for the long term. Running my A300 to Wharfedale W70E's and the KX-400 to Yamaha NS-690 II's.

At some point I'll A/B them for fun, but again, both sound awesome. If the A300 is in good condition and reasonably priced, I'd grab it while you can and keep an eye out for the Fisher. Both will hold value, so if you need to sell the one you like less later, you shouldn't lose anything or may even gain a few bucks.

all in all, and all things being equal (i.e., comparing amps at similar power output levels and/or original price points), the Fishers are superior from my perspective - but if a nice hk comes along, no reason to eschew it ;-)
