H/K Citation 19 // Speaker Protection - what's best?

My new-to-me Citation 19 amp has the characteristic turn-on/turn-off 'pop.' It's only mildly annoying, but I'd like to see if there's an easy-peasy way to avoid this (short of dropping $300 on the Eminence D-fend.)

A speaker protection circuit is a "must". The units are old, transistors have a MTBF so probably on the upward trend
of the "bathtub" (curve). Plenty of cheap protection kits on the bay. I've used this type in about 10 amps,

I've been working on a 19 off and on for past 3 months, only need to mount the spkr protect kit, not much room.
I also fit a dedicated transformer (12-0-12) rather that tap the audio supply

Looks great, but my skills are, uh, limited; and, I’m really wary of screwing up my otherwise perfect amp. Is there another thread, perhaps, that shows a noob like me how to do this safely?
