H/K Citation 22 Amp: Debut, Cost, & Max Upgrade $$$?

The Citation gear doesn't bring the same money as Marantz, or the other popular brands even though it's equal to or better than them. You have to decide what that amp is worth to you. I love my Citation 22, its a beast and it sounds incredible, but it's not worth a lot of money. Ebay was flush with them in the 2-400 dollar range not too long ago and I don't think any of them sold. Google Citation 22 specs and you will find the review by hifi classics with the release date and original MSRP.

One thing which affects SS Citation prices is the reliability of them. And also the fact that they are not easily repaired by many technicians.

I've had my HK Citation 22 for 10 years or so - great piece of Kit! I considered getting another at one point to have a matched pair,
but these days I just use it in bridged mode to run a JBL 4641 sub (something like 600 watts mono mode to 4 ohm maybe?)
Sorry for the old picture its all that's handy. Oh, I always kept an extra 1 x2 board underneath to improve the airflow, just in case. (Can't hurt!)

The 22 does seem to run hot and the front heat sink is 5-10° warmer than the rear set so I keep the amp raised up, too for better air flow. I don't know what the designers were thinking when the made the lower front bar full length with just a small bump on each end to act a feet. Sort of blocks the air coming in from the front of the unit. With just the sides and rear access to the vented bottom panel the front channel doesn't see as much airflow.
