Market Value of h/k Citation Reciever

does anyone know what one of these (h/k citation receivers) should cost if you could even find one?

Using ebay as a source for the relative value of these units, prices appear to range from $275 to $375.

Thanks for the reply. I tried to use eBay also, but I did not find any in prior sales for this 70's h/k citation receiver. Are they indeed that rare?

Hi,
Long time, no post on AK...
Anyway, I've just come into posession of.. a Citation X-I poweramp and am also looking for more info on what is a rare beast.
Haven't had much time to listen yet, although I can confirm that with my current Electro-Voice "monitor" horn/12" driver combo the amp does indeed work rather well and is indeed full bandwidth :)
Anyway, HK have some interesting info still available (including a sheet on how to adjust the bias, as well as the catalogue) available for download from HK (looking for the link right now).
One thing I ahve noticed is that this amp seems to have a single frame xformer rather the double toroidals in the XX.

There is one citation receiver in germany

Hello,
my name is dirk and i'm a proud owner of the citation-receiver too:music:

The receiver is in very good technical condition, but has a few dings on the case. After a long search i also have the original brochure in mint condition and copies of owners- and service-manual.
It's my absolute favorite receiver and the citation sounds better then other vintage receivers i own, like the Pioneer SX-1250, Marantz 2330B or Tandberg TR-2080.

Regards from Berlin, Dirk

If I haven't replied already, this is the only receiver from the silver era that I would spend the big bucks on. Maybe some day I will luck out and find one on the fly. You never know.

Wow! What a beauty!

I sold H-K equipment from the mid 70's to the early 80's...never heard or saw that one.
Familar with the 330/430/630/730/930 line of receivers and the Citation 11,12,17,19 and 16.

Would love to stumble upon one like that someday.......aah to dream....:D

Enjoy

Hello Dirk your Citation receiver looks stunning. Tell us more about your collecting and how you came to find such a cool H-K as this one.

Citation-Receiver

I'm a fan of harman/kardon since over 15 years and have a lot of items from h/k. I first heard about the citation-receiver in 1999 and since this time i'm looking for it. After six years of waiting, i finally bought one on ebay in the usa. On the photos below you can see a (small) part of the vintage receivers in my living-room. On the left side you can see the Citation-R, Sony STR-7065 and the Pioneer SX-1250. On the right side Luxman R-1500S, Tandberg TR-2080 and Marantz 2330B.

Take also a look at my website http://web.mac.com/sieversdirk/iWeb/HiFi-Klassiker/Willkommen.html (i did not update this site for over 2 years)

Here is an other one from germany...

Citation Receiver is mine since 2000, a friend had bought it in the eightys
from an GI near Frankfurt.
Iam really lucky with that gear! It sounds so very good, and is really heavy, it weighs about 26kg! And for me its THE Receiver from the receiver wars in the seventies!!! There is no other Receiver i want to have! All the time from midseventies I was a receiver fan! My first (in the seventies) was the little Sony STR6036, after that i get a Realistic(dont imagine the Model), than the hk670, and then the brand new hk795i, an astonishing sweet hk630 was also mine(they all gone , but not the 670 ), and now the Citation.
I never saw a test about it in any hifi magazine.
About the CitationReceiver i first heard in 1987 in a german stereomagazine, reading about the "new h/k795i in that they ask "is it the new Citation Receiver?"i but never saw a pic!
When i first saw it in friends home i really get so in love with it that it never got out of my head! That was the thing i searched for since the eightys without knowing how it looks, So i pay the asking 700Eur for and it was mine.
In the beginning there was many misunderstanding between us cause it wont work like i want! Have a lot to repair, but since then it worked nearly perfect, but the Phonopre half the times loose it right channel, brrr... but i will fix it
some days...
Does anyone know if there in US it gives orginal parts for it?

HK has a site on the net that allows you to register your equipment with them, no matter the age as long as you have the serial number. Now what this does I do not know. As far as parts since this was a limited production model, I doubt they still have any parts for it. But you never know. Your channel drop out could be just oxidation. Deoxit time.

Just a quick side note on Deoxit. I do not think it is sold over there. You no doubt know it is a cleaner, conditioner & protecter that works near magic. You may have to once again call upon a GI to get some cans sent to them. I think your channel problems could just fad away a little Deoxit or we can hope.

its my favorite receiver of all time.. I'm still amazed by how many people have never heard of this unit, unlike the rest of the Citation line
Can't think of anything bad to say about it except maybe the price
a beautifully musical unit, no matter what speakers speakers its connected to..
and such a beauty to look at when shes lit up.

This is the story of my Citation Receiver unit 237-0429

I bought the receiver to Juanin's son.

Probably the only hk citation receiver in Chile.

I`ve got one HK Citation receiver. I`ve buy it at 1978, I have import it from HK directly because I live in Chile, here in south america you know??
I`ve he original service manual if anobody needs it.

The serial number is 237-0429. It soud much better than the Acurus A250 amplifier with Carver CT-17 and the Marantz 2325.

Today I`m using my HK citation with a JBL HP580 speakers and a Carver DTL 200 MK2 CD player. I which to conect it a NAD 542 CD player. What do you think??

Answerd me!!!

Hi Folks,
I am from germany and an owner of 2 Citation Receiver. I have the 110V and 230V version. I had my first citation receiver in 1990 and sold it 3 years later. I could never forget this receiver . During this time I drove my JBL L110 with the Citation 21/22.But I could never forget this receiver so I bought the american version from a german guy.
But to be honest I was disappointed how it sounds. So I got the chance to buy the 230V version from a friend of mine. This device sounds perfect like I know it from the past. Unfortunaly I always have the same problem with the power control. It is always in the beginning till 9 o'clock. Of course there is so much power that normal users are always have the volume control under 9 o'clock.
Still I am searching for spare parts but I do not know how to manage this. It looks like the poties are individuell.......any ideas?
If someone is interested in my american version let me know, I think I am going to sell it to someone who will have power and the passion to let it sound as perfect as it used to be.
By the way: my first citation receiver I sold was given back to me 20 years later. But it is completly crap and can only used for spare parts.

I was really facinated about this thread and also that some engineers wrote something about the guys who were involved in this citation receiver...thanks Brian!!
