H/K PM660 potential issues

Greetings.

I recently acquired a Harman Kardon PM660 amp and a pair of Hartley Zodiac 300's, but there seem to be a couple issues with the amp, so I wanted to address my concerns here.

The first issue is that the H/K PM660 only outputs sound from the tweeters from the Zodiac 300's when only the source is selected, and I have to press tape monitor 1 function for the full range drivers to kick in. I don't know if that's just the amp is not able to drive the speakers normally without the tape monitor function, but with very little information I could find, I thought the amp could drive these speakers.

The second issue is that when I turn the amp on, the speakers make a "pop" sound when the speaker system 1 is selected (where the speakers are connected to). If it's not selected and I press the speaker system after the amp is turned on and wait a bit, it doesn't make the "pop" sound and everything is fine.

Everything else seems to work fine. I haven't tested the speaker system 2, the phono input, tape functions (except tape monitors), cap trim (I don't know what that does), and the cartridge (I don't know what that does either).

Any insight to how I might be able to address this issue is very much appreciated.

I have one. It’s a great sounding and powerful amplifier. Definitely worth the effort to sort out. Start with a deoxit bath. Switch’s are known to get dirty. Good luck.

some (embarrassing, I admit) update to add:

Today, I just did some dusting with compressed air (which was the only thing handy to me at this time), as the amp was pretty dusty, and I decided to test the amp before putting the cover and the faceplate back on.

I connected the speakers and connected an input and started to play music, and apparently. I had mistakenly thought that I was turning ON the tape monitor 1, when I was turning them OFF to get the speakers to work properly.

The amp was delivered to me with the tape monitor 1 pushed to ON position and because there was no light inidcator (which I knew about before buying) on the tape monitor, AND the button does NOT recess to indicate that it is ON, I had thought that I was turning the tape monitor 1 ON, when I was really turning them OFF!!!

Big brain fart moment T__T

And apparently I also solved the popping noise that goes through the speakers just by dusting the amp with a can of compressed air, and have since noticed a difference in sound quality that comes through the speakers. There is a slight "click" noise though, but I assume that is normal.

I will order the Deoxit kit soon, but mfaz28 you said that you have one -- would you be so kind to tell me what the cap trim function does?
