Hack job on a pot - Luxman L1

I got a Luxman L1 for free that looks like it’s been in a barn for the last 40 years. Several issues, but the most outrageous one is that somebody replaced the volume pot at some point and did a terrible job (see photos). The volume knob wiggles, can’t really adjust the volume precisely, scratchy as hell, etc.

Given that old potentiometers that fit would be hard to find, what would be Your approach fixing this hack job? The original volume pot had a 200k ohm resistance and 6 outputs.

Alps blue velvet 250k might work. Don't know if they have a 200k unit.

The 250k will work, but you'll have to "turn it up" a little more to get to the "volume" the 200k would be at the given rotation point of the original. Not a big deal by any stretch of the imagination. Just check your dimensions so it fits the mounting hole and the leads fit the board. The height is the main factor, plus the depth from the hole to centerline of the leads.

Or, there's the possibility of carefully enlarging the holes on the board into slots the pot could solder into IF the resulting height of the shaft will line up with the hole in the chassis.

Just remember, if you have it upside down, (like in the picture), center terminals will still go to center holes, but left terminals go to right holes, and vice-versa.
