Results were less than spectacular. Can't hear jack above 11,000 hz...:sigh: A little below normal for a 50 year old....

Dropped off my 240, 3300 and 3250B for repair in exchange. He frowned at the 3250B. On the other hand, he liked the 240 well enough. Low hours and would fit well in his collection he sez... 3300 looks good too. He knows them well. 240 has a problem with the left channel, the 3300 does work, but of course considering the age, needs to be looked at.

The 240 may very well be getting a faceplate retro.

After reading your post, I just listend to a 12,000 hz test tone and heard it just fine. Guess the Rush concert in 1980 didn't kill my hearing as bad as I thought it did. Soon to be 55, but my wife still bitches about how loud I listen to music. I have a db meter that I use to show her that most of the time, I'm not listening to much over 80 db and not for extended periods of time. Moderation is the key - just like with everything.
 
I tried the tone thing a few weeks ago, 13200Hz is my cutoff (age50). Not too shabby for someone who's mixed live bands for the last 20 yrs. And after repairing a 3250, I know why that guy was frowning!:sigh:
 
Bill S- my wife still comments about how loud I listen to music and I'm going to be 55 in a couple of weeks. Sometimes I wish I couldn't hear voices. My dog is blind and I can't hear. We make a good pair.

I just accidentally drove the younger folks at work insane. Thought I'd play a few tones for my own edification/amusement.

They REALLY don't like 14 or 15kHz tones.:smoke:

Funny. I'll have to try that. Where can I get a smattering of specific frequency mp3s, do you know?
 
Had mine tested 20-25 yrs ago & I can't hear stuff like an air nozzle going off. Too many ear infections, & too much shooting w/o protection..
 
In the tune "Chuck E's In Love" I used to be able to hear a very high-pitched tone that starts right as the singing starts.

Haven't heard it for a loooong time, now. :(

I'll be 55 in 2 months - happy birthday Duke! Gramps had the right idea. He'd just turn down his hearing aids when the nagging got too bad. I have the db meter so I can show just how loud the music is playing. Even at 80 db, you can carry on a coversation without too much effort. Some folks like my wife think that's jet engine loud.

Your comment made me remember that I'VE heard a similar tone/noise/whatever on certain records/tracks over the years...And, screwier, in the Eighties/Nineties, I remember hearing a VERY high pitched whine when going in certain stores in a mall.

My granddad used to do the same thing. People always used to say what a great listener he was. They had no idea that the ear scratch was him shutting the hearing aid off LOL.
 
Too bad you can't have a fake hearing aid in so you could fiddle with it and say "sorry, can't hear you, need to go and change the battery" - end of conversation.
