HAN-D-MAG Demagnetizer

ToTo Man

NEVER ENOUGH TOTO!
I'm considering purchasing this demagnetizer for use on my R-t-R and cassette deck, as it seems to be the only substantially powerful demagnetizer worthwhile purchasing. I've just found this website however, and it recommends NOT to use it on cassette decks. http://www.blevinsaudio.com/handmag.html Why would this be? Is it too powerful for cassette decks?

Hi, I know Annis suggests that it can be used with Cassette Decks, but this seller claims no? Perhaps an email to the seller will help explain why?

Perhaps too many other sensitive components (Motors, etc) are too close to Cassette Heads? I know it's been suggested by the manufacturer to keep the unit away from VU Meters. Mark

From what I've read it is probably just this model. And I don't believe that it has to do with strength, but rather size of the wand. And being able to get in the right position and distance from the decks heads. Maybe they make a model that is better suited for cassette decks.

I know I looked @ the Han-D-mag back when I bought the RS model I have. And IIRC they do have several models to choose from.

I've used one on my decks for years and never had a problem. Be careful! Han-D-Mags are strong.

Best

I have one, and it is one potent sucker. The wand is a bit on the big side for cassette decks. For those I use a smaller unit. It sure has the juice to do those larger guides, heads, rollers, etc. of the big R2Rs.

Enjoy,
Rich P

Richard, I've got an "Altai" mains powered demagnetizer which I got about 35 years ago (don't that make me feel old :tears: :tears: ), has worked fine on my cassette deck heads over the years.
If I ever make it up to Scotland I'll pack it along with my toothbrush.:D
