I’m looking for opinions about the Hana EH/EL vs the Sumiko Blue Point Special EVO III, as well as impressions of the high vs low output versions of the EVO III.
There have been many opinions on-line where the BPS has been found to be shrill and forward but it seems like (but maybe not) these were based on running it into 47K. I had an original high output BPS (non-EVO) that hasn’t been used for quite a while (it wore out) and found that it sounded much better at less than 47K (37K? 33K? I forget).
Also, there has been quite a bit of Hana EH vs EL discussion on-line but I have been able to find almost nothing about the high vs. low output BPS EVO III.
Tone arm is a Sumiko MMT. The effective mass can be varied to some extent by using either a HS-12 (12g) headshell and standard counterweight or a Technics SL1200GAE (7.6g) headshell in conjunction with the counterweight from an FT-3. (The lateral resonance of the BPS + HS-12 was 10 Hz.; I didn't use damping.)
