Handel across the world

If you are playing any version of Handel's Messiah on Christmas Day, please post here.

Some information that would be cool:

- Your location

- Your version

- Images

- Any comments you want to make about the occasion or the work

Initial interest shows that we have most of North America covered. I'll be playing my vinyl copy and probably a couple of CD versions too.

Found it on YouTube. I'll definitely get it on.

Yeah me too!. Here's a pic of the booklet cover from my vinyl copy

For this edition, the good people at EMI saw fit to pack the 3 LPs in paper sleeves. But they included a rice paper sleeve with a flap for each and a piece of card stock to separate them. Quite an impressive package job.

This is a great double CD with historic recordings of the Messiah going back to 1899. I had it out last night after reading this thread. I will play some more later.

Indeed a beautifully packaged set. My set has the card stock, but not the rice paper sleeves. I'll be playing mine.

Now playing in Lewes, Delaware U.S.A.
A recent thrift store find at the Lewes AmVets store. Terrible cover, had gotten soaked at some point in it's past and was literally stuck together. Pristine vinyl however.

I will be watching for a new edition. This one has lots of surface noise, some substantial surface scratches, and lots of rice krispies. It will get another bath and a magic eraser treament, but I need a new, or at least a cleaner, used copy. I don't think my speakers are really suited to so much choral music. Lots of sonic fatigue and my tinnitus is flaring.

"So aside from all that, how was the play Mrs. Lincoln?"

Got another version of Handel's Messiah playing. this one is a highlights collection from a cheapy 4 disc box set that I bought at Costco decades ago. It's got a local flavor for me as it features the University of Maryland Chorus, the Cathedral Choral Society of D.C.'s National Cathedral and the Smithsonian Concerto Grosso.
(does not like to have it's picture taken)
