Handel's Messiah on Christmas Day 2018

[KevinJS]

Which version of Handel's Messiah are you playing on Christmas Day this year?

Last year we had quite a few members playing the piece.

Images would be great, as would any thoughts you have about the music.

There was a big discussion of this on NPR the other day. The reviewer commented that it was actually an Easter piece,
but it DOES get pulled out at Christmas and performed by many choral groups as well.
The critic they interviewed discussed the version by the Chorus of St Martins in the Field, conducted by Neville Marriner -
Got me intrigued enough that I ordered a copy (CD) via Amazon ...

I found this 3 LP set for $1 at the Salvation Army store. And I inherited that Ormandy version on RTR tape from my dad.

This is the one I'll be playing.
Mine doesn't look this good, but it plays very nice.

I saw the performance couple years ago with the San Francisco Symphony at Davies Hall. Wonderful.

Thanks for the contributions so far. I'll be posting mine wile I'm playing it tomorrow. Last year, I played the Ormandy/Philadelphia vinyl copy, but it's truly terrible. This year, I have a new version to try out.

Merry Christmas all. Back later with my copy of Handel's Messiah.

I will be streaming this one via Amazon Music and Echo, since I don't own a copy myself.

Fresh out of the shrink wrap! I'll be putting this on after a late breakfast and a short chore.

Same as every year - Boston Baroque conducted by Martin Pearlman.

I did catch some of the Marriner recording on the radio this afternoon also.
