What is Festivus?

Secular holiday that celebrates the holiday season without participating in its pressures and commercialism; popularized by the TV show Seinfeld in the 1997 episode "The Strike".

Main Elements of Festivus (According to Seinfeld):
Festivus Dinner http://festivusweb.com/festivus-dinner.htm
Festivus Pole http://festivusweb.com/festivus-pole.htm
Airing of grievances http://festivusweb.com/festivus-airing-of-grievances.htm

From an earlier post in one of the other sub-forums here at AK:

We did our first holiday decorations this year, in, well, decades.
We did an Xmas tree, and, a Festivus Pole.
The Festivus Pole has its Feats of Strength decorations on it.

OK,… the Xmas tree was a hugely overgrown juniper that I cut back this week, that had some sort of very large scale rodent/varmint nest in it that took 4 full trash cans to remove. It was located next to an orange tree, and the critter was climbing between the two trees, and it was bringing oranges and orange limbs into its nest. So we evicted it for the holidays (the Airing of Grievances).

The Festivus Pole - Feats of Strength decorations are three pairs of leather work gloves that I've worn out in a year and a half (so far), and nailed to the post; worn to a point where each finger has been wrapped in black gorilla tape.
