Hello. Got me Harman/Kardon 630 on a auctionsite here up north in Sweden were I live. It comes with the original walnut case in very good condition. I am a big fan of these old receivers. I have been a collector of these rarities since the early 90's. My collection consists of the complete Marantz 22xx series from early 70's, also the beautiful Kenwood KR-5400, 6400 and the wonderful 9400. Also KA 601 and KT 815. But....the best sounding in My collection is the HK range, the 330B, 630 and the fantastic 930. I use AR XA and Thorens turntables with Ortofon MC cartridges, Marantz Cassete decks and AR, B&W and Carlsson OA 12, 14 speakers. I also use JVC cd players z264, 274 and 284.

Nice collection there, all good units. The 630 is kind of a rare one, we usually see the 330 variants then the 430 and then jump right to the 730 around here. The 930 is also kind of rare, over here the quad units seem to be more common in that range.

Post a pic or two if you get a chance, I'd like to see one with the wooden case (also kind of unusual for the HK-30 series).

Well, Bang&Olufsen is in facit cheap Philips stuff, and Tandberg, well ok but out of business for several years. However, in my highend equipment I use Electrocompaniet Power, Preamp and phono/Riaa also from Norway. Of course the speakers and turntable/arm is of USA origin.

Well, I also have the 330B, which i bought for myself as a Christmas gift in ,75, together with a pair of EPI 100 and a Micro turntable. I do loved Santa that Christmas.....I still have that old 330B, still plays very well
 
I've still got a 330C (slightly newer version made in Korea, no pre amp out/power amp in options) and that little receiver surprises me every time I switch it on. It gets along very nicely with a pair of Dynaco A-10 speakers. Used to have a 430 and a 730 twin power. Somewhere down in the basement I've still got my old tube TA7000X receiver too, still works great after all these years!

I used to have a Sonab R3000 receiver from your neck of the woods, that was a terrific little unit with four little presettable tuners plus a main tuner. A rather unconventional but very effective tuner setup, though I found the angled switch marking kind of hard to get used to. It also had an unusual "tone balance" control instead of conventional bass and treble controls, but it worked very well once you got the hang of it IMO. I seem to remember the electronics inside stamped with the Dynaco label just like the electronics in my old B&O Beocord 2000 DeLuxe reel to reel deck. The schematic diagram was included in an envelope taped to the inside of the cover, wish they all did that!
 
Interesting that you mention that the HK gear sounds better than the Marantz and the Kenwood gear in your systems. Not many diehard Marantz fans would even entertain an HK to find out how good those old units do sound. They were the second best sounding units when I was selling gear.

Why do you consider the Tandberg as separate components. They had a nice line of receivers. There are those that do like them. I don't know if they are less expensive there than here but they do get a nice price here. They look wonderful with the rosewood veneered cabinets on most units here in the states.
 
HK 630 and 930 dual powered recievers were the last to go SS units for me...actually the 630 is still here as it was my first receiver and to this day sounds great for a sand amp
dug it out from my pile a while back and she fired right up...I have literally thousands of hours on this little receiver
Sold the 930 to a very happy camper a few yrs back kinda miss it altho tubes took its place long ago

I hate Bang and Olufsen! And Tandberg, well, really a pain to work on. Just curious.

BTW, my ancestors came from Sweden. We were Andersons.
But, I am mostly German.
Its a difficult mix.
 
Must be one of those YMMV deals... I'd work on most Tandberg units as a first choice vs. most of the Japanese stuff that was being made at the same time. Probably just a question of what people get used to through repetition, I suppose.

A lot of B&O is a pain to work on, although I was able to recessitate a 6000 receiver and it was a fine sounding unit. Tandberg never really had much issue with. Not really anything too bad.
 
Yeah... think that's another one that's an acquired taste. Friend of mine is quite comfortable servicing B&O but he's done enough of them to be well up the learning curve. Me? Not so much, which is why the 2400 and 9300 receivers I have are still waiting to see the bench.

Will at some point, it has mechanical failures of two of the sliders and probably other typical old age needs... the 9300 is more interesting to me, but I don't have anywhere to use either piece at the moment so between that and knowing there'll be at least a small learning curve involved, they are sitting.

It's now 2021, 5 years later. I just snapped up a 630 on the Bay for $200 plus $50 shipping. It's on its way from Arizona to Texas today.

As for what I am seeing on eBay, the 630 is by far the least common of the twin powered x30 series (first gen 630 & 930, second gen 430 & 730). I'm into the earlier styling of the 330a, 330b, and 630, especially, then 930, then 4 and 7. And styling to me is a lot of the game. I'm looking for jewelry.

I'd been hankering for the uber-classic 330b, but this very clean looking 630 popped up overnight, and upon close inspection of its face, I found it to be the apple of my eye.
