Harman Kardon Citation 16a slow beeping sound

I recently bought this amp from a B.C. Government Auction website so I wasn’t able to test it prior to the purchase. When I got it home and plugged it in it worked fine, sounded quite good actually, except for the a slow beeping sound audible when powered on. It’s not terribly noticeable when music is playing but when there is no music, it’s quite audble. I would describe it as a beeeeeeep silence beeeeeeeep silence beeeeeeep…..
Any ideas what might be causing this?
Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me with this.

Have a you tried a different outlet/location/preamp?

Also -
Are you a tech/are you competent enough to work on this unit?

The amp that was previously plugged in (Pioneer sx-1080 being used in “power amp in”) does not make the beeping sound. The pre amp is a Sansui au 12000. I haven’t tried with another pre amp or outlet. The Pioneer was plugged into the same outlet as the HK. I will try it with another pre amp/outlet configuration to confirm it’s not an anomaly.
Im not planning on working on it unless it is a simple repair, but information is mainly what I’m looking for. This would be most helpful when bringing it to a tech to service it.

Well do some basic troubleshooting at least.
Also I'd hope you would take it to a tech that's smart enough to figure it out...

That’s the primary reason for posting, as I don’t know of a solid tech in my area so if I can bring some conclusive information it will likely/hopefully go better for all involved.

I won’t get to the troubleshooting until later tonight.

Okay, I tried the amp on my downstairs system, no more beeping sound but instead a loud ish 250 Hz hum when plugged into a Bryston BP 25 preamp. The hum even occurs when the preamp is off.

1. With nothing plugged into the amp except speakers, does it make any noise?
2. If not, does it have a 3 prong plug on the AC cord?
3. If so, try using a 3 prong to 2 prong adapter on it to lift the ground, sounds like you have a ground loop.

1. No sound until output from pre amp is plugged into the input of the amp.
2. Yes, three prong plug.
3. Will try that, thank you

Ground lift worked like a charm. I will try the ground lift plug upstairs replacing the sx -1080 and hopefully the slow beeping sound disappears as well.
Thank you for your help.
