harman kardon hk 870 power amplifier no power now HELP ANYONE

Hi there, i just got a hk 870 power amp and the hk 825 pre amp, when i got this the guy told me it has not been powerd up in 10 years, i turned the power button on the amp and the wait light blinked for one second and after that it never powered up, the pre amp takes 25 min with the wait light blinking then the unit will power up and i works fine. does anybody know what to do or should it go to the hi fi in the sky. thanks

First suggestion: post your issue in the Vintage Solid State forum, it will get the most exposure, to the best people there. Second: please take no offense, but your question needs to be re-written, as it's very difficult to understand. That HK gear is good stuff, and well-worth fixing, or having fixed.

The preamp needs to be recapped if it took a long time to power up (going by memory) but it is designed to delay when you hit the power button. Nice preamp, it was my first preamp. One day I may buy another just for nostalgia sake.

Looks like they will both need some work, but as mentioned well worth fixing.
If your not up to it, I would get a pro to do the work.
I've alway used Stereo Surgeons, but there are plenty of competent repair shops, and a few that specialize in vintage H/K repair.
Along with the repair, make sure all of the solder connections are checked, re flowed etc. H/K runs higher current then most, and the solder joint become heat stressed over time.
Also, all the switches on the preamp need a good cleaning-even then you still may have to push them in and out a few times to get good contact.
It will probably run $200 ea or so-maybe less- but you should be go to go for quite a few years.
