Harman Kardon ST-8 Platter Retainer

Does anybody know what size the retaining clip and washer are for holding the platter in place on a ST-8. I just recently acquired one and it came without these two pieces. The table runs fine without them but it would be nice to have things as they were meant to be.

Also, any suggestions on what to do with a finicky on/off switch? The contacts in it don't seem to always want to connect. I tried spraying some Deoxit in it which initially seemed to improve things but after a few switches on and off I'm back to the same issue.

I have an ST-7 that had dirty contacts. I am trying to remember what I did. I think I disassembled the switch and cleaned the contacts directly. The ST-7 has a toggle style, whereas the ST-8 has a paddle, so I am not sure if you can disassemble it the same way. Good luck!

I suspect (but don't know for sure) that the ST-8 used the same parts as ST-7.



The washer is a "Wavy washer" (Single Wave Spring Washer):

0.545" outside diameter
0.3" inside diameter
0.012" thick

Exact diameters aren't critical, >=0.5" OD should be fine. The spindle is 0.28", so any ID large enough to fit over it is fine.

The clip is an "E-type external circlip":

0.55 outside diameter
0.025" thick

Don't know the ID or what groove diameter is needed, but suspect one of these would work:

OTOH, I wouldn't bother putting them back in. I removed mine to get inside for cleaning & maintenance, and never put them back (the E-clips are a PITA to install). Hasn't been an issue, though I do us a cheap record clamp which serves the same purpose, keeps the platter firmly connected to spindle plate.

The switch (if you can't get yours to work) is just a DPDT rocker switch bolted into the plastic housing. Any DPDT switch with same bolt-hole spacing & appropriate current rating could be substituted.

You can get clip and wavy washer assortments at Harbor Freight. It's not critical as long as it fits.
