Harman Kardon TA 5000X: Did I do good?

I picked this nice looking Harman Kardon TA 5000X tube receiver up at a second hand shop today. It's in an easy 9 out of 10 as far as condition goes. I bought it AS IS with a broken 6AJ8 tube. I want down to a local audio shop and was sold an NOS Telefunken ECH81: Can you believe that?

Anyway, I'm about to head out to the garage and put some speakers to it and fire it up.

I must admit I know next to nothing about Harman Kardon gear, but this baby must way near 50 pounds! Its power tubes are a quartet of GE 7355 branded HK. It has five Telefunken 12ax7 smooth plates and all other tubes claim to be made in West Germany and are branded HK.

Anybody know anything about this baby? Any good? Was this a good score or what? Please let me know your thoughts.

I have a 50 year-old HK pulled from a console looks similar in the chassis design (but not the front plate), it is sweet. So yours will be...

You did really, really good. HK tube gear is tops!

I wonder if there are any remnants of the old factory/company in Plainview NY. I know someone who lives there who would know. :scratch2:

Well, I fired up the unit and have been giving it a listen for the last hour or so. It sounds very nice! I can't say that I'm all that familiar with HK tube gear, but this receiver has impressed me!

Funny, I always thought KH gear was Japanese; I was surprised to see that it was made here in the States. Learn something new every day if you're not careful, I guess!
